WHAT IS SMPS

Power Supply Is An Electrical Device That Provide Power To Electronics And Circuits. Most Of The Electronic Device Require Less Power DC Voltage As Compared To The Voltage Supplied To Home Or Office. This Led To The Development Of Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS). This Device IS Responsible Foe The Power Conversion From High Voltage AC To Low Voltage DC.

SMPS Supplies Power To Different System Components Such As The Motherboard And The Device drive. The Main Components OF SMPS Are Power Connector And power Supply Fan Is Used Keep The Unit Cool.

Identifying Different specifications Of SMPS

  • SIZE:- Power supplies Are Available Various Size. Before Selecting A Power Supply, You Need To Selected Power Supply Of Appropriate Size Which Can Fit In Your System.
  • Connectors:-   Check For The Available Number Of Power Suppl Connectors That Can Provide Supply To All The Device. More Number Of Connectors Are Bettor.
  • Wattage:- Server And Desktop Computer Work In Power Rating Is Measured In Terms Of  Watts, Rating For SMPS Varies Between 250w-600w. Maximum Power 250w-500w And Server Have Rating Between 400w-600w. ItIs Always Better To Have Excess Wattage On A Power supply.

THREE TYPE OF SMPS

  • AT SMPS
  • ATX SMPS
  • BTX SMPS
AT SMPS:
AT stands for Advanced Technology. These are all old SMPSs. They had 12pin power connector, this is called as AT power connector. They were used in Pentium-I, Pentium-MMX, Pentium-II and Pentium-III CPUs.
ATX SMPS:
ATX stands for Advanced Technology eXtended. They had 20pin Power connector, this is called as ATX power connector. They were used in Pentium-III, Pentium-IV and AMD CPUs.
BTX SMPS:
BTX stands for Balanced Technology eXtended. They have 24pin Power connector, this is also called as ATX power connector. It has 15pin SATA power connectors. They are used in Dual core, core2duo, Quad core, i3, i5, i7 and latest AMD CPUs.
